Nice Weather and Good Times

While our weather this weekend wasn't unseasonably warm, it wasn't unseasonably cold either. We spent a great portion of it outside. We played, and walked, and explored and got a little work done too. Friday night got the ball rolling. MH and I went out for a much overdue date. We enjoyed sushi and frozen yogurt before collecting the Tot and heading home to all sleep together.

Saturday, MH took Tot for donuts - an outing that is becoming a weekend ritual for them. Then they took some cans to the recycling center while I grocery shopped all by myself. Tot then attended a birthday party at an inflatables center and highly enjoyed himself. He also enjoyed his very first game of air hockey.

Later, Tot rode his bike and played some with the dogs outside, then we decided to take the dogs to a local lake that has a place for them to run. We used to do that quite often with the dogs, but with Tot's arrival, their off site exploring was reduced drastically. They (the dogs) highly enjoyed themselves, cold water and all. I was a bundle of nerves. It's odd how perspectives change with life changes. Pre-Tot, our family used to go to this exact same spot and walk for quite a while taking in the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. This time, all I could see were all the ways that our little independent one could get hurt or fall in the cold rushing water.

As we were leaving, an older man came up to MH with a map. He was lost. Rather than just tell him (and his wife) where to go, we hopped in the truck and told them to follow us. We guided them out to the main road and set them back on their way. It was a feeble attempt to let Tot get a nap. The couple was grateful. Tot was awake.

Sunday after church, MH and Tot cleaned up some brush that had accumulated in our yard after the ice on Christmas day and subsequent clean ups by the power company. Then Tot and I cleaned up a little bit more and took a leisurely, long walk before I headed in to make chicken wings and macaroons for a Super Bowl party. Tot was in his room chilling out because he was being grumpy, but after I set off our clearly, way too sensitive smoke alarms, he came out scared and crying. I scooped him up and rocked him for less than 3 minutes before he dozed off. He slept for a good 45 minutes in the house, and then for 20 more minutes in the car. That helped his mood tremendously and we all had a great time with our friends snacking and hanging out.

My tiny dude's shadow looks so BIG.

I love our weekends at home just being a family doing leisurely low (or no) cost things and having a good time. I'm in a homebody mood these days. Maybe it's the weather or maybe it's the company, but right now there's no place I'd rather be than hanging out with my guys and dogs just being us.

When I saw your chicken wings picture, the first thing I thought was...that would be good with some sticky rice and papaya salad! hahaha.
